A Hidden Meaning

Although there have been traces where St. Francis is either mimicked or seen in a negative light, such as in a dark scene) viewing most images and displays like the ones featured below, St. Francis is represented in a positive light and honored throughout the city and country for those that participate in the Catholic church. When visiting Assisi for the first time, it is easy to be overwhelmed with the overrepresentation of St. Francis. In the town, he can be seen as a lively statue from a huge cathedral on the top of the hill, all the way to a small figurine in a shop in a corner. It goes unnoticed to see that he plays a very important part in the church and a very large representation of how important of a figure he is to the city of Assisi. It can be confirmed from the color, light, and posture of the figures and/or photo, that St. Francis is a very caring and selfless saint. He creates care for all of God’s creatures and creations and portrays a view of selflessness to the eye of a viewer. In most all of the figures that could be seen in Assisi, St. Francis is positioned with some type of animal and/or bird. This is a reflection on how he is constantly caring for everything around him in order to confirm his faith with God. As seen in the church in Castiglion Firorentino, St. Francis is pictured with many animals around him and helping the people that seem to be begging him for either food or other necessities. Although it could be seen in a different light, it seems almost obvious to the viewer that he is giving himself up for the people around him in order to represent God. This message is continuous in many parts of Assisi and around the world and shows how much Francis gave to the Catholic faith.
