Although the Catholic Church is one that has very thick roots and strong traditions in its faith, there is the fact that the world keeps changing and people are growing more and more in the realm of technology. In the past, it is known that the church has the main use of text in books. There is one main idea that is spread to all of the people and that is the idea of the word through text.
In the catholic church, it is fairly easy to see that people are needing more advanced ways to go about doing things more efficiently. In the article New Media and Normal Mysticism, the author Eileen D. Crowley explains that it is normal and ideal to grow both the Catholic Church and technology almost in a parallel, where both can benefit from one another. It is the idea that technology, in any form, can spread the word of God even more than without. For example, “As a result of her involvement with this media ministry and her experience of this media-based preaching service, one woman reported that, as she is listening to the radio or watching TV or a film, “Now I’m always looking for God.”’ (Crowley). In this, the woman is trying to give light to the idea that because of different aspects in technology, she is able to better her faith and even grow more in the church just because of the accessibility that is all around her now.
It can be difficult for the church to grow in such ways such as the technology field because of the way it has always been and the idea of keeping things minimal, but this article constantly reaffirms the idea that it is completely normal and even beneficial to have these growing parts. A different outlook that is newer in the church in recent years is projecting the music, sermons, and other important aspects in church, on a projector. It is easier for both the younger and older generation to engage in church when this is interactive and viewed this way. The people in the church even “report how much more engaged they now find themselves to be in worship, too. They are becoming “full, conscious, active participants” in the liturgy of the church and the liturgy of the world.” (Crowley) all because of the text provided in church. Even the smallest of aspects of technology can change the way someone views the catholic church. Whether in a positive light or negative light, the new advances in life are changing everything around us. The Catholic church being one of these is only growing in its own technology and is able to spread their ideals even more than ever before.
